I adore this book.I have been looking to purchase a planar head for years but generally, it's both out of my price range and far too clunky to reason bringing with me everywhere. This book, however, contains plenty of photographs of planar heads lit from each angle. It also goes into detail on the muscles of the face, the Reilly method of structuring a portrait with examples, and even points out some great styles. Most notably, however, is its emphasis on what elements/shadows/forms and muscles define a particular emotion. The book demonstrates multiple emotions, from the front, side, and 3/4 angles to really solidify the reader's understanding of how to approach drawing that emotion.I highly reccomend this book for any artist interested in the human form.

This is a new cover. I liked the old one better because it showed the muscles of the face.That is why I bought the book. I often create fantasy works without a model so it is important to be able to know what muscles are involved in expressions. I'd been looking for a book like this for a while.

I'm a beginner sculptor and this book is starting to serve me well.Everything is well described,a lot of graphics for a references ,a lick of anatomy .I assume it would be great for beginner painters and drawers ,but it works good for me as well.A must have .
